Council Applications

As part of their Development Control Plan (DCP), councils have a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) in place to aid in the protection of urban trees.

In order to prune or remove a tree, application may need to be made to council for a permit to undertake the work.

This can be a nuisance, however this system is extremely effective in maintaining and improving the urban tree canopy which is of great benefit to our environment. (For a list of these benefits, see The Benefits of Trees section).

There are many exceptions to the Tree Preservation Orders which means that often a permit is actually not required.

The specifics of each council’s TPO can vary greatly depending of the location and the type of tree population it has.

This can make it quite confusing for the average householder but we can advise you on what you do and don’t need to apply to council for.

If you do need to apply, we can assist you with it and in many instances even file your application for you.

If you would like to view your council’s TPO, see the Tree Preservation Order & Application section.

Tree protection

For the protection of trees on development and construction sites, we write reports detailing the required protection measures.

All methods and specifications comply with the Australian Standard 4970 (2009) so they qualify for submission with DA applications.

Tree care

Needing advice on how to manage your trees? Do you have a sick looking tree? We always prefer to see a tree repaired than removed, so call on our knowledge to help find the solutions.

Consultations are available which include on visual tree assessments and can be extended to laboratory testing of soils and diseases.
